My fear of what will come of the over reaction and heavy handedness of government during Covid is that future pandemics will be looked at askance when they could be much more serious than Covid. The H5N1 flu virus is bound to mutate to transmit from human to human. In the few human cases that occur now, there is as much as 50% fatality rate. The over reach during Covid will potentially cost many, many more lives during the next pandemic.

I like listening to Steven Pinker, I feel smarter listening to him speak, lol. I saw both of these men in person recently, at the "Dissident Dialogues" in Brooklyn, New York, on May 3-4th. This was very simplistic. I do agree that Putin is a gangster like figure, but the interview did not address Russia's approaches to the west from year 2000 onward. Nothing about NATO placing nuclear capable missile launchers in Romania, Poland and Germany. Nothing about the failed 'NATO partnership for peace' initiative. Nothing. This is a clear misrepresentation of reality. NOT to speak of the blowing up of the Nord Stream pipeline. And nothing about the alleged 'energy blackmail of Europe' Russia has been accused of doing. Nothing about how German CEO of BASF (now retired) Martin Brudermüller view of Russian gas deliveries to Germany (which he supported 100%) that built BASF to become the leading electrochemical company in the world. I do agree that Russia need to change its old style system. It needs to become a federal state based on who wants to be in it. Open up its economy and let the regions enjoy a bigger keep of its produce. That is not simple to achieve, especially when so many regions are underperforming economically. How to support them will be the biggest issue/hurdle to overcome. Next interview Mr Ponomarev give, he should speak more about these things. Not just answer stupid questions from a host that has nothing but propaganda on his mind.

I think we have enough data on crime and punishment now to know what is effective. We need to look at the countries that have the lowest crime rates and see what they are doing and then see if we can we emulate that.
